Grunge is Moda Fabrics' signature low-volume "blender" basics line, designed by BasicGrey. Each fabric is dyed first and then printed on one side, giving a worn, scuffed, painterly texture rather than a flat, uniform colour - from a distance it reads as a solid, while up close the mottled, layered colour is visible.
Quilters use Grunge as a background or blender to let a focus print or pieced pattern stand out, and to add depth and interest to solid-based or traditional patterns without the flatness of a true solid.
