This hands-on workshop is designed to expand your weaving skills and showcase the creative potential of the rigid heddle loom. Through guided instruction and practical exercises, you'll explore techniques that go far beyond the basics of plain weave.

Participants will complete a woven sampler featuring a variety of pick-up stick patterns, supplementary weft and clasped weft techniques. By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

Use pick-up sticks to create warp and weft floats
Incorporate supplementary weft techniques
Construct and use a heddle rod to weave with more than two shafts.

Participants should have:

Have completed a Beginner’s Weaving Workshop, or
Be confident in dressing a rigid heddle loom and weaving plain weave independently

Materials
No materials will be supplied for this class, as we assume most students will already have most of these items. All items will be available for purchase in store for a 10% discount for class participants.

3 balls or 150g of 4 ply cotton yarn (100g light, 50g dark) – pre-warped, bring leftovers for weft. We recommend Fiddlesticks Posie.
1 ball of 10 ply cotton (or a thicker yarn from your stash for a colour pop, worsted weight, or DK, or you could hold multiple strands together) – Don’t mix your fibres. We recommend Fiddlesticks Finch.
2 pick-up sticks
2 shuttles

A rigid heddle loom (any width) dressed with:

10 dent reed
Warp length: Suggested 2 meters
Weaving width: 10 inches/100 ends
50 Ends dark, 50 ends light, centered in the reed (diagram in images)

Arrive with your warp spread with waste yarn and ready to weave.
