Have you met Alfred?
Alfred is a bird with charm, personality and attitude.
We invite you to join our new ALFRED CLUB. Meet up monthly with a group of stitchers to share inspiration and creative energy as we piece and embellish our blocks and enjoy having a chat and a laugh.
This happy, bright wall quilt uses a combination of slow stitched backgrounds, raw edge appliqué, simple stitches and Liberty “scraps”! Of course, you can use any fabrics from your scrap buckets and play with your collection of threads.
DETAILS:
- We will meet on the second Thursday of each month between 1:30 – 3:30pm.
- Every month each attendee will be given a pack of snippets which will always include some Liberty Tana Lawn pieces.
- One of our shop girls will join the group for each meeting to provide any help needed.
- Tea / coffee provided.
- Cost: $35.00 per month
The pattern by Lisa Mattock of Forage is available for purchase in store. It includes a 50-page pattern book which breaks down each block with layout and stitchery designs and 13 templates to create the birds. These templates can produce more than 96 different birds by changing the combinations of bodies, tails and wings, and will extend their use far beyond making just the one quilt!
Below is a reminder of the suggested materials (not included in the class price):
- 113cm x 125cm – background fabric (green in the sample photograph)
- approximately 1m total of fabric for the backing of each block. Make yours scrappy or just use one fabric consistently.
- - 126 x 125cm backing fabric (which also makes side binding)
- 40cm - binding fabric
- 120cm x 135cm wadding
- For the applique - a mixture of vintage and upcycled textiles in lightweight, natural fibres such as lawn, cotton and linen.
- For the embroidery - a mixture of embroidery threads in colours that complement your fabric choices.
- recommended needle is a No.22 Chenille but of course you should have whatever needles you are most comfortable using for each technique.
- Finished quilt as shown measures approximately 114 x 127 cms (45 x 50 inches)
