Skill Level: Should have familiarity with knit and purl stitch, casting on, and knitting in the round.

Knitting colourwork (also known as stranded colourwork or Fair Isle knitting) may seem difficult, but not as complicated as it looks. If you’ve been too intimidated to give colourwork a try, this class will demystify the process and take you through it step by step.

In this class you will made a headband/hat (pictured in blue and grey), or a more advanced cowl pattern (in the brown and pastel colours).

This class will cover:

  • Holding and tensioning yarn
  • Managing floats
  • Colour dominance
  • The best types of yarn for colourwork
  • Sewing in/tidying up
  • Duplicate stitch

The class will not include more advanced colourwork techniques such as:

  • 3+ colours
  • Flat colourwork
  • Intarsia
  • Mosaic colourwork
  • Steeking
  • Ladderback jacquard

Pre-work: Students should cast on and complete the ribbing according to pattern and come to class ready to start the colourwork section.

The class price does not include any materials, but class participants will receive 10% discount off materials purchased for the class.
