Description
Saturday 1st November
10:00am - 4:00pm
Discover the joy of weaving in this relaxed and practical beginner’s course. Whether you’ve never touched a loom before or you’ve tried warping and felt unsure, this course will help you build confidence in your weaving skills. You’ll learn the full process of preparing your rigid heddle loom and weaving in plain weave.
During the class, you’ll work on a placemat (as pictured). This is a simple project that will teach you how to use different colours in your warp to create interest with colour. The kit will contain enough yarn to make 4 placemats.
By the end of the course, you will:
• Understand how to calculate yarn requirements for your project
• Learn to dress (warp) your loom with multiple colours.
• Weave using plain weave structure
• Gain the skills to plan and start your own weaving projects independently
Your teacher is Bec Markwick. Bec is a dedicated fibre arts enthusiast with a passion for inspiring others to explore and enjoy new crafts. Bec is committed to helping students dive into the world of weaving and discover the joy of learning new skills.
The set of 4 placemats uses 6 balls (approx 660m) of 10 ply cotton yarn (330m of each colour). You can choose to bring your own yarn from home if you have something suitable, or purchase the discounted yarn pack containing the yarns used in the sample. You will be able to choose your colours in store.
