Discover the joy of weaving in this relaxed and practical beginner’s course. Whether you’ve never touched a loom before or you’ve tried warping and felt unsure, this course will help you build confidence in your weaving skills. You’ll learn the full process of preparing your rigid heddle loom and weaving in plain weave.
During the class, you’ll work on a simple project: a knotted fringed scarf, perfect for learning basic technique. (as pictured).
By the end of the course, you will:
• Understand how to calculate yarn requirements for your project
• Learn to dress (warp) your loom with ease
• Weave using plain weave structure
• Gain the skills to plan and start your own weaving projects independently
Your teacher is Bec Markwick. Bec is a dedicated fibre arts enthusiast with a passion for inspiring others to explore and enjoy new crafts. Bec is committed to helping students dive into the world of weaving and discover the joy of learning new skills.
The scarf uses approximately 400m of 8 ply yarn. You can choose to bring your own yarn from home, or purchase the discounted yarn pack containing the yarns used in the sample. You will be able to choose your colours in store.
We have Ashford 40cm SampleIt rigid heddle looms available to purchase in store. You can choose it as an add on to the class using the checkboxes.
Materials Required:
Please bring the following:
• Rigid heddle loom (Ashford or similar) with a 7.5 dent reed. Please ensure your loom is already assembled prior to class.
• Threading hook
• Shuttle
• Warping peg and clamps
If you purchase an Ashford loom all of the above are included.
• approx 400m of 8 ply yarn
• Please also bring a bowl (cake mixing size) or bucket.
